Introduction
Northumbrian Water Limited (NWL) is committed to delivering reliable water and wastewater services with a strong focus on sustainability. In line with its environmental objectives, the company sought to upgrade on-site welfare facilities with a solution that reduced environmental impact.
The Requirement
NWL needed welfare units that offered essential amenities while aligning with its sustainability goals. Traditional diesel-powered units were incompatible with the company’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions and fuel usage, prompting the search for a greener alternative.
The Solution
In collaboration with ecowelfare, NWL introduced a fully solar-powered 12ft welfare unit, equipped with a canteen, single toilet and dry room. This innovative, off-grid solution delivered a self-sufficient, eco-conscious workspace that eliminated the need for diesel, significantly lowering emissions and fuel consumption.
The Conclusion
- Zero fuel costs – Completely solar-powered, removing the need for diesel.
- Over 82 litres of fuel saved – Reducing both costs and environmental impact.
- More than 262kg of CO₂ emissions avoided – Contributing to NWL’s carbon reduction targets.
- Enhanced staff welfare – Providing a comfortable, well-equipped facility for site teams.
Â
By adopting solar-powered welfare units, NWL improved on-site conditions while reinforcing its sustainability strategy. These units deliver vital amenities without reliance on fossil fuels, helping create a cleaner, more responsible working environment.
