Introduction
Archaeology Wales is a respected archaeological consultancy, offering a full spectrum of services from desk-based assessments to detailed fieldwork investigations. With a highly experienced team and deep local knowledge, they have supported projects across a wide range of sites throughout Wales and England. Their work uncovers the past—while their values look firmly toward the future.
The Requirement
While focused on uncovering history, Archaeology Wales wanted their operations to reflect a commitment to preserving the future. Ensuring their on-site welfare facilities were aligned with sustainable practices was essential. Traditional diesel-powered cabins didn’t fit this ethos and finding a partner who shared their environmental values was key.
The Solution
To support their dual goals of sustainability and staff wellbeing, Archaeology Wales partnered with ecowelfare to deploy fully solar-powered welfare units at their dig sites. The 12ft combination unit which includes a toilet, drying room and canteen provided a comfortable rest space for their team while removing the need for fossil fuels. With capacity for up to seven people, the unit kept downtime to a minimum and supported a more sustainable approach to fieldwork.
The Conclusion
- Zero fuel costs – Fully solar-powered operation with no reliance on diesel.
- Over 189 litres of fuel saved – Cutting expenses and supporting environmental responsibility.
- Over 599kg of CO₂ emissions avoided – Helping Archaeology Wales protect the future while studying the past.
- Improved site efficiency – Reduced downtime and enhanced team morale with reliable, on-site facilities.
